Tour the New Orleans Cemeteries

Many of the early French settlers were buried in New Orleans and you can discover the history and legends of the area with a tour of area cemeteries. Many of the settlers preferred to be buried above sea level, so they are entombed in marble chambers above ground. Now, you can walk through these cemeteries and see the resting place of many legendary residents, including the Civil War general P.G.T. Beauregard and the voodoo queen Marie Laveau.

New Orleans is home to several plantation homes that tell a story about Creole heritage and history. You can discover the residences and visit historic estates that boast some of the South’s most beautiful gardens and even restaurants that are open to the public.
