This half-day excursion is an excellent way to discover Bali’s intriguing world of temples, along with traditional arts and crafts. Stop at a popular batik workshop, a lovely Balinese tradition which has been passed down for generations. Proceed to the magnificent Royal Temple, in the town of Mengwi, which was once the center of a powerful kingdom. This amazing temple complex includes a wide moat, exquisite wooden shrines, and beautifully carved gates, making it one of the area’s main attractions. Then, enjoy a leisurely drive to the final stop, Tanah Lot, Bali’s most photographed temple. Known as the “Sunset Temple,” the impressive black lava towers of this sacred 16th-century temple are dramatically situated on a rocky outcrop that extends 656 feet offshore.
Spend the day discovering the fascinating and vibrant culture of Bali. Seabourn has announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent for the construction of two new ultra-luxury expedition ships with a new partnership between shipbuilders T.Mariotti and Damen, who will collaborate on the construction of the vessels under a common name MARIOTTI DAMEN Cruise.
The new ships will be a brand new innovative design, created specifically for the ultra-luxury expedition traveler, and will include many features that have made Seabourn ships so successful as well as a host of unique features designed to enhance the expedition experience. The first delivery is expected in June 2021 and the second ship is anticipated in May 2022.
The 170 meter, 23,000 gross ton vessels will add new capacity for Seabourn in Antarctica, the Arctic, and other exotic destinations around the world while meeting PC6 Polar Class standards. Each will feature 132 oceanfront veranda suites, which will be home for up to 264 guests.
“This is a groundbreaking moment for Seabourn and for luxury travelers, who will now find a new standard of authentic yet luxurious expedition adventures in new and amazing destinations few people will ever see,” said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “The combination of immersive experience, fine accommodations, and sumptuous amenities offered by these new ships builds on the success of our current product lineup and further demonstrates our leadership as innovators as we continue offering the finest ultra-luxury cruises available.”
As vessels built exclusively for expedition travel, the ships will offer amenities designed to deliver an unparalleled guest experience in some of the most remote areas in the world. A new and exciting offering will be two submarines carried onboard, providing an unforgettable view of the world beneath the ocean’s surface. The ships will also be designed to carry a complement of kayaks and 24 Zodiac inflatable boats, which have operated as a part of the highly successful Ventures by Seabourn program offered in select destinations around the world.
“It’s been amazing to watch the growth of our expedition-style experiences since our first sailing to Antarctica in 2013 through today, where we now offer the Ventures by Seabourn program in a number of desirable destinations around the world,” said Robin West, vice president of Expedition Operations and Planning for Seabourn. “A year ago we started developing the concept for this next chapter of our expedition story with dedicated ships built to take luxury travelers to the most coveted places on the planet and they will be thrilled to see these remote destinations in Seabourn style.”
Seabourn will announce design and service details for the new ships beginning later this year. Specific details about itineraries and booking availability will be released in early 2019. The first ship is currently planned to sail in the Arctic in late summer 2021, with a full winter season in Antarctica to follow.

Quark Expeditions, a leading provider of expeditions to the Polar Regions, has been chosen by Travel + Leisure (T + L) readers as one of the Best Small-Ship Ocean Cruise Lines in the world. The assessment comes as the result of T + L’s annual World’s Best Awards 2016, which asks readers to rate their travel experiences around the globe.
Many of the respondents listed the intimacy of Quark Expeditions’ small ship expeditions and the ability to visit landing sites larger ships can’t easily access as key reasons for small ship cruising.
“We’re honored to be recognized in the T+L World’s Best Awards,” said Andrew White, President of Quark Expeditions. He continued, “Our goal at Quark is to provide intimate, high-quality adventure travel experiences, which focus on passenger comfort, enrichment, and safety. Being recognized in this way is a big feather in the cap for all of us at Quark.”
Polar Travel in Style and Comfort
Quark Expeditions has been an industry leader in Polar adventure travel since 1991, and has one of the largest and most diverse fleet of passenger vessels operating in the Arctic and Antarctica.
