Our Favorite Excursions in Western Europe

With so many culturally rich destinations in Western Europe, it is difficult to choose only a few. However, based on history and overall bang for your buck, if you’re setting sail to the region, here are a few shore excursions you won’t want to miss.

The UK: Royal Windsor Castle

The royal residence, in the county of Berkshire, is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. Built in the 11th century, the castle’s lavish interior features art from the Royal Collection and the famous Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House.

Historic Tour of Amsterdam

Amsterdam is rich with history and home to several museums and cultural centers that tell the story of its artistic heritage and centuries-old traditions. The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Dam Square are a few sites to add to your walking tour fo the city. The Anne Frank Museum is open for tours and your trip may include a stop at the Bridge of 15 Bridges or the Weeping Tower.

Medieval Tour of Cologne

Many people don’t realize the wealth of Medieval architecture and historic sites around Cologne, Germany. The city spans the Rhine River so you can take a river tour while making stops at the cathedrals and museums along the way. The Cologne Chocolate Museum is a must-visit destination while Phantasialand is perfect for a day of thrills and fun. Be sure to make a trip to the Cologne Cathedral to see the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and administration of the Archdiocese of Cologne. The cathedral was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996.
