New Port in Honduras Welcomes First Big Ship

Norwegian Jewel called on October 15; more lines scheduled to visit this year

Banana Coast, a new Honduras cruise port, welcomed its first large ship, the Norwegian Jewel, on October 15. Situated in the port town of Trujillo, it’s the first cruise port on the mainland of Honduras.

Six lines are expected to make 29 calls at the new port between now and April 20, 2015. Lines expected to visit this year include: Holland America Line, Silversea Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, P&O Cruises, and Crystal Cruises.

Banana Coast will also be a regular stop on Norwegian Jewel itineraries that also include Cozumel and Belize City.

The port includes a beach and a shopping village. The town of Trujillo is a short walk away, and is rich with Spanish colonial history. Excursions from Banana Coast include horseback riding, kayaking through a wildlife preserve, tours of an animal rescue center, and snorkeling in a starfish bay.
