New fleet will add a wide selection of river itineraries throughout the U.S.

American Cruise Lines has announced plans to build a new fleet of modern riverboats, adding a wide selection of new river itineraries throughout the U.S., and introducing a new style of river cruising in the country.

The concept for the new riverboats will differ from the line’s existing paddlewheelers and coastal ships, offering a more contemporary design both inside and out. So far, design details released by the line includes open deck plans for natural light and unobstructed views, glass-enclosed panoramic lounges, spacious staterooms with large balconies, and a variety of public spaces.

The new ships are in addition to the Victorian-style riverboats the line is currently building, including American Eagle, a new paddlewheeler for the Mississippi River.

More details and artist renderings, as well as information on newly-introduced itineraries in additional regions of the U.S. will be announced in coming months.
