Terminal 4 gets a $24 million upgrade
The self-proclaimed “powerhouse port” of South Florida, Port Everglades is set to begin an extensive $24 million upgrade of Terminal 4 in March. According to port director Steve Cernak, the upgraded and expanded terminal should be ready for the winter 2014-2015 cruise season.
“This latest expansion effort is a direct result of the cruise industry’s movement towards building larger ships,” Cernak said.
The renovations include moving passenger drop-off from the east side of the terminal to the west side, which will ease traffic congestions, as well as add 50 new check-in counters, new elevators, and new restrooms. Other enhancements include the addition of 172 parking spaces and new loading bridges, which will substantially improve embark and debark processes.
