European Waterways Adds Downton Abbey Tours

Luxury river cruise line travels to Highclere Castle from popular TV series

European Waterways, Europe’s largest luxury hotel barge cruise line, has added more “Downton Abbey” Classic England cruises along the River Thames. Due to the popularity of renowned period TV drama, the luxury cruise line has scheduled a number of 7-night sails for May and August.

Passengers will travel on its Magna Carta hotel barge, a luxury vessel outfitted with four spacious suites, spa pool, stylish furnishings, and a personal chef. Along with stops at Windsor Castle, the Stanley Spencer Gallery, and the Stafford Hotel for tea, the cruise stops at Highclere Castle, iconic home of the fictional Crawley family on the show.

“We introduced the tour of Highclere Castle on the Magna Carta cruise last year and interest was so strong that we brought it back this season for select spring departures. But with demand still high, we’re pleased to accommodate our guests by adding more tours,” said Derek Banks, managing director of European Waterways.

Rates for the sails start at $5,180 per person, and include all meals, wines, an open bar, numerous other daily escorted excursions, local transfers, and admissions. Rates are based on double occupancy.
