Puerto Vallarta is a Mexico destination with many facets. In different areas, the once quaint fishing village has become a rapidly developing city, a remote beach resort, a charming bayside promenade, and a base for active adventures. Here are some of the best options for your time in port.

Sightseeing
The oceanfront promenade known as the Malecon is a lovely place for a walk along the water, particularly as it is peppered with a number of stunning sculptures. Other great places to stroll include El Centro, where visitors can explore the main church, La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, and the Zona Romantica for architectural gems. South of the city are gorgeous sandy beaches along Banderas Bay.

Activities and Tours
Nature and watersport activities abound in Puerto Vallarta. Whale watching takes place in Banderas Bay from December to March, while other nature-based options include swimming with dolphins, zipline tours in the jungle, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Active pursuits range from horseback riding to deep sea fishing, dune buggies, and ATV tours. Other possible tours include shopping, sailing, tequila tasting, and daytrips to beaches and surrounding villages.

Grab a Bite
Restaurants and bars are abundant along the Malecon, while the quiet Isla Rio Cuale – a small island in the river – is also a good spot for a meal. Many restaurants and cafes can also be found in El Centro and Marina Vallarta.
