Cruising Mexico: Adventure Cruises in the Gulf of California

Snorkel with whale sharks, take a burro ride, and more while cruising Mexico with Un-Cruise

Whale sharks, dolphins, coastal mangroves, red rock cliffs, white-sand beaches, colorful coral teaming with exotic marine life. This is a Mexico adventure cruise in the Sea of Cortez, also known as the Gulf of California, one of the most diverse seas on Earth. This extraordinary place, between Baja California and mainland Mexico, offers cruisers an abundance of unique experiences. Cruising Mexico with Un-Cruise Adventures means sailing aboard the luxurious 84-guest, triple-decked Safari Endeavour on two separate and exciting itineraries to experience this watery adventure playground.

Cousteau’s Aquarium of the World

On this Mexico adventure cruise, the Safari Endeavor spends 7 days in the marine life-rich waters once explored by Jacques Cousteau, the famous marine explorer and photographer. Passengers will board the Safari Endeavour in San José del Cabo, then sail north up the coast of Baja California, stopping first in Isla Cerralvo, where waters teem with marine life – groupers, manta rays, sharks, coral, sea turtles, and more. Against a backdrop of steep bluffs, small streams, and sandy beaches, water and hiking adventures abound. Then it’s up to crystalline waters and craggy peaks of Bahía de La Paz for snorkeling with whale sharks, followed by a day in Bahía Agua Verde for a skiff excursion, bird watching, a burro ride, and more.

From here, the sandy coves, hilly arroyos, and high mountain peaks of Isla San Jose await. As you continue cruising Mexico, an early morning snorkel at Los Islotes gives you an intimate peak at playful sea lion pups (you can also observe the colony from the boat or skiff). Later, you’ll kayak one of the most breathtaking islands in Baja—the Island of the Holy Spirit. Onshore, you can beachcomb along the sand or hike among exotic desert cacti. The cruise ends the next morning back in San José del Cabo.

Baja’s Bounty! Whale Sharks, Whales & Mobulas

The rich bounty of Baja California unfolds on this 7-day Mexico adventure cruise. After it departs from San José del Cabo, the Safari Endeavour sails up the coast of Baja California. Guests can wander the white sand beach of Isla San Francisco’s Half Moon Bay, hike the red cliffs of Isla San José, snorkel along barnacled rocks, or paddle in a mangrove sanctuary. Depending on the time of year, you’ll either snorkel among gentle whale sharks in Bahía de La Paz or head overland to Magdalena Bay to see gray whales and calves in the lagoon. At Bahía Agua Verde, guests can explore the coast by small skiff, visit with a local ranchero and his family, and take to the canyons and mountains on a burro ride.

Outside the village are a number of excursions to indulge in: kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, guided hiking, and a trek to the ancient volcano of Isla Coronado. From here you’ll spend a day observing a sea lion colony at Los Islotes and swim through a rock arch where orange fan and white fire coral sway in the current. Your week of cruising Mexico ends on Isla Cerralvo for water play with a paddle or flippers, hiking, and beachcombing, then back to San José del Cabo the following morning.
