Taste posole in Acapulco, Mexico, a type of pork stew that’s a regional specialty.
Acapulco has been a favorite Mexico resort destination for more than half a century, playing host to such high-profile vacationers as the Kennedys, Elizabeth Taylor, Danny DeVito, and Frank Sinatra. These days, Acapulco offers a more authentic destination than Cancun or Los Cabos, with a rich historical atmosphere mixed with electric modern nightlife.

Classic Attractions
In downtown Acapulco, the Zocalo (main plaza) is worth seeing, and within walking distance of the dock. Other classic sights include the cliff divers at La Quebrada, shopping and resorts along the Golden Zone, and Caleta Beach. Possible shore excursions include sightseeing tours, deep-sea fishing, and river cruises through the jungle. It’s also worth visiting some of Acapulco’s museums to learn about the city’s rich past.

Modern Culture
For a taste of the lively local nightlife scene, visit Acapulco’s many restaurants and discos, where travelers can dance on through the night, or entertain yourself at a karaoke bar. Some ships may offer excursions to visit celebrity homes in the area.
