Looking for more unique onboard experiences? The Queen Mary 2 is the only cruise ship with a Planetarium at sea.
Any cruiser knows that you can lay out by the pool, take a fitness class, and see a show onboard a cruise ship. But how about taking a film class? Enjoying an outdoor barbeque? Taking an art tour? Luxury cruise lines are offering an ever-increasing variety of onboard activities to fill each hour of every day at sea. The following are 6 of the most unique, unusual, and exciting options for activities to do on a cruise ship.

Learn a Unique Skill
Crystal Cruises and the USC School of Cinematic Art have teamed up to offer a Digital Filmmaking course onboard. Taught by professionals, the fun five-course series teaches guests how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Not your thing? Don’t worry – Celebrity Cruises offers a variety of unique learning opportunities as well, including Rosetta Stone language lessons and hands-on art classes.

Sleep Under the Stars
Each Seadream Yacht Club ship has a number of Balinese daybeds (designed for two) that can be made-up for couples who want to sleep outdoors, under the stars. The beds are set up on deck and dressed with linens, a duvet, and pillows – plus, if you’re a honeymooner, strewn with romantic rose petals.

Have an Outdoor Barbeque
Onboard Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection, the new Lawn Club Grill is an unexpected place for an outdoor cookout. Diners are paired with a chef to assist in preparing the table’s menu, where the interactive experience includes a lesson in proper grilling techniques and the chance to participate in the cooking action over custom-built grills.

Visit an Art Gallery
Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa 2 takes its artistic inspiration so seriously that there are 890 different pieces of artwork onboard the cruise ship. Pieces are displayed throughout public areas and various suites – there are also alternating exhibitions in the ship’s Deck 9 art gallery. An art tour is held on every cruise, and onboard experts are available to discuss the artwork with guests.

Hungry to learn? Oceania Cruises’ Bon Appétit Culinary Center offers hands-on cooking instruction ranging from regional cuisines to homemade pastas. At the Europa 2 Cooking School, chef-guided classes are both entertaining and educational, focused on cuisine and presentation. For true culinary immersion, Silversea offers L’Ecole des Chefs by Relais & Châteaux, 14 cooking school at sea cruises complete with demonstrations, market tours, and cooking competitions.

Get Married
Did you know that you could tie the knot at sea? Cunard Line, Celebrity, and Azamara Club Cruises are among the luxury cruise lines that allow ship captains to marry their passengers. Couples can choose to marry on the high seas en route to their honeymoon, or in one of the ports along the way. It’s even possible to get married onboard before the ship leaves its home port, allowing guests to attend the ceremony without tagging along for the honeymoon cruise.
