Spend Time in Long Beach Before Your Cruise

Whether you’re heading to Mexico or South America, your cruise may depart from Long Beach, California. The Long Beach cruise terminal is close enough to the airport for an easy transfer and departure. It’s a busy cruise port with its famous 12-story geodesic dome which sits right beside the Queen Mary. This is the venue that was used as the movie production soundstage for “Batman Forever” and other blockbusters. The terminal is only 11 miles from Long Beach Airport and about 22 miles from Los Angeles International Airport.

You’ll find a wealth of things to do and enjoy in this coastal city, a popular destination for water activities and outdoor attractions. The Queen Mary is open for daily tours as well as nighttime ghost tours. You can even stay in one of the ship’s staterooms overnight. Make your way to downtown Long Beach on a sunny afternoon to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific on Rainbow Harbor.

The beaches of Long Beach aren’t very far from the cruise terminal and these can be a great place to enjoy biking, kiteboarding, and other activities. Even though it’s not known for surfing, you’ll find plenty to do and enjoy around the shore. Don’t miss the chance to stroll around the Shoreline Village boardwalk where you’ll find several family-friendly attractions, a wealth of restaurants and bars, and an old-fashioned arcade.

If you get the opportunity to break away for the day, head to Naples Island. The three islands in Alamitos Bay are accessible by car and you can take a walkway to see the mansions and grand yachts in the neighborhood. If you happen to be in the area during the Christmas season, head here to see the decorated houses and beautiful holiday lights throughout the inner and outer islands.
