Heralded as one of Europe’s most majestic rivers, the Rhine triumphantly flows over 700 miles from the Swiss Alps into the North Sea in the Netherlands. Magnificent medieval castles, lush vineyards, rugged mountains and bustling cities line its banks and its rich and storied history fascinates those who navigate its waters. In fact, Julius Cesar commissioned a bridge and crossed the Rhine in 55 and 53 BC. Since 1815 it has been used as an international means of trade and it also acted as a major line of defense during World War II. Of course, we probably don’t have to tell you the very best way to take in the Rhine’s grandeur is by river cruise!
